DS & Durga poppy red, Orchid drinkers and five step Waltz ~ fragrance review

DS & Durga perfume bottles

D.S. & Durga, the Brooklyn-based duo, independent – perfumer has revamped its line of perfume for 2011. Certain scents of originals have changed a bit, and nine new fragrances have been added; across the continuous line "take inspiration from obsolete herbal wisdom, indigenous ritual medicine Americana, outdated lore, geography, history and gastronomy". I just tried three newcomers "feminine", each with its own distinct atmosphere.

Poppy red takes its name from words in the "Richland woman Blues from Mississippi John Hurt", and it is a mixture of orange blossom, Daffodil and violet Parma. It is not also impulsive and Thoroughbred as its source might suggest, but it would be a spring fragrance lovely. A fresh bouquet orange Blossom, the most beautiful I felt since neroli essential oil Grand of Cologne to the workshop. As it evolves, one emerges almost notes lily-like (the Daffodil?), but the Violet is very, very subtle. Like many scents of D.S. & Durga poppy red feels as if it contains a high percentage of natural ingredients.

Orchid drinkers refers to the taste of the 19th century for a drink called salep, brewed from ground Orchid tubers. Its composition includes Orchid, sandalwood, bergamot, and white tea. Drinkers Orchid begins politely, by an agreement of opening of bergamot and something which reminds me of Chamomile. The heart of the fragrance is a soapy iris with an earthier emerging gradually under orris root note. There is another note of tea in the drydown: this time, light, dry white tea note. Orchid drinkers could easily be worn by way of men than women.

Five-step Waltz evokes sensuality of a waltz and effect shocking this dance must have had when it was introduced in Victorian Ball rooms distinguished: it is a harmony intense vanilla, amber, lavender, jasmine grandiflora and Moroccan rose. Five-step Waltz begins with a flurry of jasmine creamy smoky. Just when it seems a little too rich for everyday wear, scent mellows into a nucleus of jasmine-amber and a mild vanilla reinforced by one then ylang-ylang rubbery-sweet notes.

An old friend who sells vintage on the Etsy recently told me she noticed a growing market of clothes, furniture or anything else of rustic chic marked as "heritage", "artisan", or "americana." D. s. & Durga has been at the forefront of this trend, and they are still running it well. Their imaginary world is a pleasure to enter, because it has finely detailed and modest scale - their fragrances have individual identities, carefully crafted compositions and reasonable prices for a line "indie". Now, please excuse me while I go SIP a cup of tea and dolls myself rising in preparation for a night on the dance floor.
